I have to admit that the day doesn't really feel my celebration (at least yet). When I hear the words "Mother's Day", I immediately think of my mom, Michael's mom & our grandmas. I'm sure I'll feel more included as I get a few years under my belt & Alex gets older.
Thinking about the wonderful women I mentioned above, a quote from Tina Fey's book Bossypants came to mind. The end of her "The Mother's Prayer for Its Daughter" really hit home this year.
And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up it's back.
"My mother did this for me once," she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby's neck. "My mother did this for me." And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I'll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.
So true! During the last five months, I've had that thought a lot - "My mother did this for me." My appreciation for her has skyrocketed since I had Alex. Not just for the things she did to raise me, but for the things she does now to help me adapt to motherhood. Staying with us after Alex was born, babysitting so Michael & I can have date night, listening to my trials & tribulations, listening to my proud moments.
So while I'm very thankful this year to be a mother, I really want to give a big shout out to my mom. I love you!! And Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there - we deserve it!

What a wonderful tribute to your mother! And a very Happy "first" Mothers Day!
Oh Stephanie, you've made me cry. But you've also made me very proud of the daughter you are and the Mommy you've become. Thanks for the wonderful message. I love you so much. Mom
